July 31-August 2, 1998 Wild Herb Weekend, Valle Crucis, NC. Join us for a magical weekend in the mountains at the North Carolina Herb Association's summer conference. Learn how to grow and use herbs, make crafts, doze in a rocking chair, or hike up to the waterfalls. This year a special commercial session will be offered so you can mix work with pleasure. It is far too late to preregister, but you can show up for a day. Pack your own lunch because meals may be sold out. Fees will be $20-$65 for the day depending on whether you have meals or not. Saturday's program will include Solving Pest Problems (Toby Bost), N.C. Medicinal Plants by Dr. Jody Noe, Soil Sampling, Integrating Herbs in the Flower Garden, Essential Oils, a Commercial Goldenseal Symposium, Wildflowers, 18th Century herb Gardens, Incredible Edibles, and Making Herbal Cosmetics. Sunday's 1/2 day program includes Herbs for Stress Management, Herbal Vinegars, Permaculture, Watergardens, and Herbal Cosmetics. The Valle Crucis conference Center is the Old Mission Center behind the Holy Cross Church off Hwy 194 in Valle Crucis.
August 4, 1998 Fresh Market Tomato Field Day, Mountain Horticultural Crops Research Station, Fletcher, NC. Join us for a fun and educational afternoon and evening as we tour the latest in tomato research and socialize over the area's finest pig pickin'. Registration opens at 12:30 pm. The tours will begin at 1:15 pm and continue until about 5:00 pm. At 6:00 the Pig Pickin' will commence at Lake Julian. Research that will be looked at include fungicide evaluations, biocontrol agents for foliar diseases, tomato breeding, sustainable production practices, new insecticides, interaction of herbicides and intercrops on ground dwelling arthropods, gold flecking, and float production of tomato seedlings. '98 SUMMER AGRICULTURAL STUDY TOUR TO NEBRASKA AND KANSAS is confirmed (pending adequate participants) for August 20-28, 1998.
This nine day tour will include all aspects of agriculture and agribusiness opportunities. A diverse itinerary ranging from food processing to inspection of livestock operations to field crops, offers everyone a chance to view and learn from those on-site visits.

November 6-8, 1998 13th Annual Sustainable Agriculture Conference will be held at the Madren Center at Clemson University in Clemson, SC. There will be many educational tours, including those to aquaculture facilities, the SC Botanical Garden, an intentional community, and much more. February 19-21, 1999 The North Carolina Herb Association Winter Conference will be held at the North Carolina Baptist Assembly on Oak Island, NC. Dr. Jim Duke will be the keynote speaker and will be involved in a number of workshops during the weekend. This unique site offers tennis courts, a gymnasium, and pier fishing.
