Northern root knot nematode
(Meloidogyne hapla)

The Northern root knot nematode is one of the most common causes of nematode injury to peanuts. The symptoms of root galling and excessive root branching make recognition of this nematode's presence most discernible. Although no galls develop on peanut pods, some russetting of the pod surface may develop. This nematode may occur in heavy as well as light sandy soils.
