Leaf Scorch
(Leptosphaerulina crassiaca)
Leaf scorch is the most damaging disease caused by L. crassiaca. The
scorch symptom commonly appears as a wedge-shaped, brown lesion that extends
from the tip of a leaf to a point on the mid-vein. Like the pepper
spot symptom, leaf scorch develops most frequently during the later part of the
growing season. It is thought that leaves damaged previously by leafhoppers or
one of the leafspot fungi may be more prone to develop leaf scorch symptoms.
