Disease control strategies are an essential component of all peanut production programs. One or more diseases of peanuts can always be found in fields from planting time until harvest. The magnitude of damage and resulting crop loss, however, varies with the time of occurrence, disease distribution, environmental conditions and, more importantly, the cause of disease. Each of these factors will influence choices about what control strategies, if any, may be needed. The purpose of this publication is to help county agents, growers, chemical dealers, and certified applicators identify peanut diseases common in the North Carolina-Virginia peanut production area.
