White and green variegated patches in leaves are occasionally seen on one or
more limbs of a few plants in peanut fields. The white areas are composed of
plant cells lacking the ability to produce the green chlorophyll needed for
photosynthesis. This condition is the result of an abnormal division and
segregation of genes in cells at the growing tip. No disease causing organisms
are involved. The infrequent occurrence of this abnormal growth habit makes its
appearance of no economic importance to growers.
