Update on Methyl Bromide: 15th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol, Nairobi, Kenya

The fifteenth Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol opened in Nairobi, Kenya, on November 13. The Parties faced a very heavy agenda and while they reached decisions on a number of pertinent issues, the delegates could not reach agreement on four items pertaining to methyl bromide. These include:

As a result, these items will be addressed in an extraordinary Meeting of the Parties that will be held in Montreal, Canada, during March 24-26, 2004. An update on the result of this meeting will be posted to our website at: http://www.epa.gov/spdpublc/mbr/.

The U.S. CUE request was the result of a thorough and comprehensive review process. EPA will continue to work with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Department of State to fully support the U.S. Nomination. We wish to thank all stakeholders for their patience during this process.
