Twolined Spittlebugs on Turf

Twolined spittlebugs, both adults and nymphs, are quite abundant this year. They feed on most turfgrasses, but can be especially damaging to centipede grass. The nymphs and their spittle masses are easiest to find on cloudy days when they are located higher on the plant. Usually this pest is just a nuisance, but occasionally the population will build to numbers that can turn turf yellow in color and place it under a lot of stress.
