Entomology Hints:
If your main category is Entomology-
Show increased activity over the three years.
Leadership-
Leadership in Entomology can be shown in activities such as teaching
skills or sharing knowledge with others. This could be in classes,
leading
Bug-Out activities, demonstrations to groups, holding office in a related
club, organizing
an activity for others or a booth at a public setting.
Citizenship-
This can be the hardest area in which to incorporate entomology and
often the weakest part of the Entomology area. The definition of
citizenship involves the political process or some level of government.
Ideas could
include writing letters to leaders about insect issues. Ask them a question,
or
express a stand on an issue. Examples of issues are pesticide use
in schools, or the citizens'
"right to know" what pesticides are being used in public places, mosquito
spraying, nit control
programs in public schools, gypsy moth control, destruction of habitat
of certain insects,
the decline in the honey bee population. Attend any meetings regarding
pesticide application
use or misuse.
Make inquiries and investigate laws regarding introduction of foreign insects
into the country or area.
Ask your legislators if they have a stand on some issue relating to the
economics or health related issues
connected to insects.
Community Service-
be involved in projects which promote clean water in streams and promote
healthy aquatic insect life in the streams. Promote projects which
provide pollination or
habitat for beneficial insects in the community. Promote educational
programs regarding
awareness of nits (head lice), ticks and the diseases they carry,
or share with any segment of the
community some of the knowledge or crafts you have learned related to entomology.
Promote an entomology display of any subject in a nearby museum or public
building.
These are just a few ideas. Be creative and work with what fits your community.
